As part of OptiPower\’s Upington Nieuwehoop 400kV line project, OptiPower elected to donate it\’s time, expertise and new furniture to a local school in Upington, called Swarthmore Primary School.
Swarthmore is a Primary School based in Leseding, Upington, and currently operates as a Section 14 Non-Government Entity within the region. \”The school was established in 1946 by the DRC (Dutch Reformed Church). At that time, an informal settlement evolved around the school and these people worked on the farms of the economic farmers close by.\” 1
On 8 November of 2017, OptiPower, in partnership with Eskom, attended a ceremony to officially hand-over donations towards Swarthmore Primary, which includes a combination of Furniture to benefit the quality of education at the school, a complete upgrade of a the school\’s CCTV system, and assisted in cleaning the school\’s sports grounds completely. Present at the occasion were representatives of OptiPower Projects, Eskom, the Northern Cape Department of Education, the School Governing Body, and scholars.
As an expression of gratitude, Swarthmore Primary School, on behalf of its Principal and Staff, hosted Eskom and OptiPower Projects at a special event organised by the school, and handed OptiPower with a certificate of appreciation for these donations made. A well planned programme by the School included the opening of the Furniture by Eskom and OptiPower Projects.
OptiPower wishes to thank the School for the Special Event, and its dedication and hard work in educating the future bright minds of South Africa.
